Los Angeles Events: Fall Edition

Los Angeles Events: Fall Edition

Yesterday marked the first day of Fall… and you know what that means… Pumpkin Spice Lattes! No we’re kidding but it does mean loads of fun fall activities, even in Los Angeles! See here for some of our favorites.

Celebrate Oktoberfest!

Los Angeles is full of awesome biergartens so celebrate Oktoberfest right this year by visiting one! The Standard Downtown has managed to carve out a corner of their rooftop for Bavaria’s sake. A gigantic birdhouse that feels like it belongs in a fable dispenses tickets—each good for a pretzel, wurst or strudel from a wagon that resides at the other end of the Astroturf. Fichus trees frame yellow patio furniture but don’t block the prized views of surrounding Downtown. Trade in tickets for grilled bratwurst, a large pretzel and a stein of schwartzbier, and perch yourself at a high-top communal table and enjoy the insane view.

Looking for something a bit more laid back? Red Lion Tavern, a Silver Lake institution, has been a fixture since 1959. Current owner Aidas Mattis and his family still maintain the Bavarian connection with imagery of the Berlin bear and a 3-D mural of old-school, beer-toasting Germans and wall-mounted promotional tins from classic German breweries like Warsteiner and Bitburger, also served on tap. Schnitzel and sausage are series regulars at Red Lion where they’ll be pouring Hofbrau Oktoberfest, “the original beer of Bavarian kings” in commemorative steins and featuring live music in the downstairs bar through mid-October.

Visit a pumpkin patch.

Looking for that perfect pumpkin? Look no further, you’ll find it at Tapia Bothers Farm. Get lost in the epic corn maze (an entire lot across from the patch itself) with a much-needed map and a sheet full of trivia questions. Scavenge through the maze for the answers and once you’ve found them all, submit your name in a drawing for a chance to win $100 cash—an early treat for your navigation efforts. The festive pumpkin patch also offers a fresh farmers market, a mouth-watering roasted corn stand, kids play area, bounce houses, hay wagon ride, tractor-pulled train and weekend-only pony rides. Tapia Brothers Farm is located in Encino.

With rows of pumpkins, a giant hand-carved rocking horse, petting zoo and a mini straw maze, it’s like someone dropped off a piece of country farmland in the middle of a fast-paced, urban city. Mr. Bone’s Pumpkin Patch is a little slice of harvest in Culver City. You can expect: pony rides, elaborate face painting, a super slide, pumpkin decorating, a jumpin’ pumpkin and food and drink stands. And in true Southern California fashion, Mr. Bones Pumpkin Patch  embraces the heat and provides a much-needed shaved iced stand, because let’s be honest no one is drinking a hot pumpkin spice latte with the blazing temperatures we’ve had lately.

Bruins, Trojans and Rams oh my! With three major football teams under our belt there is no excuse to not celebrate fall with sports and watch a game. Dress up in your best Trojan cardinal red or Bruin blue, and spend a fall afternoon with 90,000 other fans. With two historic stadiums under their belts you can either watch the USC Trojans play at the Coliseum or the Bruins at the Rose Bowl. Seats at both stadiums can run well over $50, but you can grab a general admission ticket to the Rose Bowl starting for only $20.

Speaking of the LA Coliseum, Los Angeles is once again home to a new  NFL team, welcome home Rams! Currently playing at the LA Coliseum, you can catch the 1-1 Rams for a handful of games throughout the season. Their home game schedule includes teams like last years Super Bowl contenders the Panthers, the Bills, Giants, Dolphins and Falcons.

So why not get into the spirit and celebrate Fall with one of these Autumn-like activities. With both family-friendly and adult-friendly events, there is something for everyone.
