Strack Grounds Favorite Hotel Bars

Looking for a good hotel bar in Los Angeles? Lucky for you this city is full of them. Here are a list of a few of our favorites.

Bar Marmont at Chateau Marmont

You may spot the occasional movie star walking into this bar, which has been described several times as “old Hollywood”; Los Angeles Time wrote in 2007 that “there’s nothing else on the Strip with Bar Marmont’s sort of low-key glamour.”

Located inside the famous Chateau Marmont, the bar offers apertifs, as well as cocktails made with vodka, gin, rum, whiskey and tequila. Complementing these concoctions are ingredients such as hand-picked grapes, fresh fig purée and ginger beer. Pair your drink with bar snacks like cauliflower fritters, or enjoy a meal of thyme roasted chicken.

Pot Bar at The Line Hotel

Drink selections at Pot Bar span the globe. Draft beers from Mexico are offered alongside Japanese whiskey, and unusual ingredients like boba and seaweed make this bar a stand-out. The menu results from the combined efforts of chef Roy Choi, the mastermind behind Korean food truck Kogi, and Matthew Biancaniello, the cocktail chef behind some of L.A.’s most prominent hotel bars (including Library Bar at The Roosevelt). The unusual décor features circular booths, geometric design elements, and balloon letters spelling out “Pot Bar” right above the bar. Casual wear won’t be out of place.

Library Bar at The Roosevelt

What’s on the drink menu here? Nothing. There is no drink menu. Instead of offering a set range of drinks, the bar caters to your specific tastes. You tell the bartender what you’re in the mood for, and they’ll mix you a drink, using fresh fruits and vegetables in the process. Additions like smoked rosemary sprigs provide a nice final touch to the cocktails. The dark and chic space provides a stylish backdrop where you can relax. Ask the bartender to share their recipes, and you may learn a thing or two about creating a great libation.

The Club Bar at The Peninsula

This elegant spot is a gathering place for celebrities during awards season, when the bar is standing room only. Every other night, however, guests can sink into leather chairs and enjoy the atmosphere provided by the soft lighting and wood panels made from California birch. Choose from a menu with a range of single malt whiskeys, scotches and tequilas; and if you’re hungry, the bar also offers Asian fare, including papaya and sesame wontons and Shanghai shrimp noodles. “Smart casual” is the recommended dress.

Beverly Hills, CA 90212

Skybar at Mondrian

Downtown Los Angeles provides the backdrop at this open-air establishment, where a cabana and a pool add to the stylish environment. DJs spin music during the evening, while guests sip on cocktails, chat and linger. If you want a place where the patrons are glamorous, the drinks are refreshing and the ambiance is, as Curbed L.A. says, “quintessential L.A.,” this bar is worth your time.
